As part of its support for local athletes, the Hong Kong tourbillon brand Memorigin has been co-designing watches with the elite such as the snooker player Marco Fu and the bowling player Wu Siu-hong etc. The football-themed LOK16SPIRIT Tourbillon is a collaborative timepiece by the brand and the professional footballer Mark Tan Chun-lok. At the age of 19, Mark was appointed captain of the Hong Kong football team by his coach. The all-round midfielder is currently playing for the Chinese Super League club Guangzhou City. He is also the first Hong Kong player to play as a starter in the Chinese Super League, showcasing his outstanding talent on the pitch.
Mark hoped to present his spirits and enthusiasm for football on the watch. “I recall that I often played football with my father and brother at the sports ground near my home when I was young, and that is how I was discovered and selected for the Hong Kong Youth Team. Then I got my first standard contract for Peterborough United in Premier League and became the captain of the Hong Kong Football Team. Now I am the first Hong Kong professional football player to grace the pitches in the Chinese Super League,” said Mark. His commitment to excellence and improving his skills has always motivated him, which is similar to how Memorigin’s artisans pursue professionalism and perfection.
The LOK16SPIRIT Tourbillon features a football relief at the center. Its design is enhanced with the elements of The Hong Kong national football team. While half of the football relief is painted red, it is engraved with the team’s dragon totem and Mark’s jersey number “HK16”. A star relief decorates the day & night indicator at three o'clock and the power reserve indicator at nine, as Mark won the Youth Player of the Year title of the Hong Kong Top Footballer Awards for two consecutive seasons (2015/16 and 2016/17).
The watch is equipped with a tourbillon movement that consists of 193 pieces of subassembly module and 27 jewels, providing 80 hours of power reserve and operating at a vibration frequency of 28,800 oscillations per hour. The tourbillon at the six o’clock position is the core of the watch, and it symbolizes Mark’s passion and devotion to football. The timepiece relies on hundreds of gears and components to function. Mark's best performances are also aided by his winning team spirit and persistence in training.
