Since its release in 1984, the Japanese manga Dragon Ball illustrated by Akira Toriyama has become one of the most popular series in the world. One of the most impressive parts was when the protagonist, Son Goku, transformed into the Super Saiyan form to fight against the villains. Fans were captivated by the riveting storyline. In partnership with Toei Animation, the Hong Kong tourbillon watch brand Memorigin released The Dragon Ball Z tourbillon watch that brought back the childhood memories to those born in the 80s and 90s.
In Dragon Ball Z: Frieza Saga, Frieza, who claimed himself as the most powerful being in the universe, turned into three forms to obtain the Dragon Balls for immortality. Facing the strongest foe, Goku unlocked his Super Saiyan power for the first time. It is one of the greatest fights and many fans quote it as their favorite in the series, but they may not be ready for this: Toei Animation has created another spectacular combat scene for Memorigin to use on the dial design!
The watch is available in two versions: Gold and Black. Each is limited to 20 pieces worldwide. In the watch case with a diameter of 43mm, the setting of Goku battling with Frieza is exquisitely embossed on the skeleton dial. The Gold version comes with a striking gold-plated stainless steel case. The color’s symbolism of power and aspiration would remind fans of the aura around Goku and his strength in the fight. The Black version has a case with a black PVD coating and a hand-painted dial, showcasing the brand's craftsmanship and attention to detail.
To enhance the vividness of Frieza attacking Goku, purple radiating stripes are printed on the blue sapphire glass. It resembles the emission of a disastrous purple beam from Frieza's hand. The skeleton dial brings the two characters to life by portraying how they are floating in mid-air while giving out their bests. It also reveals the intricate inner workings of the timepiece. The blue sapphire glass at the back of the watch is printed with the trademark of Dragon Ball Z, underlining its collection value and uniqueness.
Memorigin selected an in-house tourbillon movement with 40 hours of power reserve and a vibration frequency of 28,800 oscillations per hour. Having 155 pieces of subassembly modules and 18 jewels, each movement is comprised of 18 types of materials and undergoes 77 polishing works in 6 months. The extreme precision required results in marvelous complexity. The brand also prepared a foil-stamped paper box and user guide. The whole set of The Dragon Ball Z Tourbillon Watch will stand the test of time as one of the most legendary collections like the best parts in the anime.
