Hong Kong table tennis athletes Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem are one of the strongest mixed doubles pairs in Hong Kong, each having earned bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships three times. Recently, they achieved a remarkable milestone for Hong Kong's mixed doubles teams at the Paris tournament, finishing in fourth place. In recognition of their significant contributions to Hong Kong table tennis and to promote the Hong Kong spirit, the renowned Hong Kong tourbillon brand Memorigin invited Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem to collaborate on the Table Tennis Tourbillon Watch. To commemorate this prestigious occasion, they hosted the Table Tennis Tourbillon Watch Launch Event at the highly anticipated Hong Kong Watch & Clock Fair 2024.
William Shum, founder and CEO of Memorigin, alongside Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem, emphasized the significance of promoting table tennis and the industrialization of the sport. During the event, Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem recounted memorable experiences from their participation in various competitions, sharing their goals and aspirations for the future.
Subsequently, William, Wong Chun Ting, and Doo Hoi Kem introduced the features of the Table Tennis Tourbillon Watch. Wong Chun Ting shared that he has always had a habit of wearing watches, particularly favoring skeleton designs. He appreciates how the skeleton dial of the Table Tennis Tourbillon Watch is crafted with overlapping patterns inspired by the lines of table tennis paddles, enhanced by embellishments that simulate the texture of rubber press patterns. This thoughtful design truly exemplifies creativity and craftsmanship.
The hands of the watch are adorned with vibrant orange table tennis balls, echoing the paddles on the dial. As time flows, this design evokes the effect of striking a table tennis ball, adding a playful touch to the timepiece. Doo Hoi Kem shared that the sight of the orange table tennis ball brings back fond memories of her childhood spent playing the sport, rekindling her original passion. Additionally, the dial features 11 luminous dot hour markers that emit a radiant glow in the dark.
William explained that wearers can admire the intricate workings of the tourbillon movement through the skeleton dial. The watch’s precise timekeeping relies on the harmonious interplay of its movement components—much like the skill required in mixed doubles, where success depends on seamless teamwork. This is perfectly exemplified by the remarkable partnership of Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem.
The watch is equipped with a tourbillon movement composed of 155 pieces of subassembly module and 18 jewels, featuring a 40-hour power reserve, and operating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. The watch is available with either a silver-white or PVD black barrel-shaped stainless steel case, complemented by a white or black alligator strap, catering to the diverse tastes of wearers.
