The Hong Kong tourbillon brand, Memorigin, has always been promoting sports culture and has invited members of the Hong Kong Bridge Team, who won the gold medal in the men's team event at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games—Chiu Wai Lap (Abby) and Sze Shun Sum (Alan)—along with renowned Hong Kong magician John Fung, for a cross-industry collaboration. Drawing inspiration from playing cards commonly used in bridge and magic, they have designed the Magic Bridge Tourbillon watch, aiming to further promote bridge and intellectual sports in Hong Kong through an innovative approach.
The saying "One minute on stage takes ten years of practice" aptly describes both bridge and magic, as both require years of dedicated practice. Abby and Alan, who have been partners for thirteen years, train together for at least 60 hours each month, and intensify their training to 150 hours in the lead-up to competitions, honing their synergy to perform at their best. John Fung, besides perfecting his magical techniques, constantly infuses creativity into his performances to delight audiences. Memorigin has brought these elements together, using exquisite watchmaking craftsmanship to create the Magic Bridge Tourbillon watch.
The Magic Bridge Tourbillon watch features an exquisite skeleton dial that showcases the intricate workings of its precise movement components. The dial design draws inspiration from the embossing techniques used in playing cards, cleverly utilizing repetitive and orderly dots, lines, and surfaces to enhance the richness of the design. The hour markers are set with 12 black diamonds, and between each marker, engravings of "bids" and "calls" from the bidding box echo the bridge theme. Additionally, the watch features two small windows engraved with spade, heart, club, and diamond, as well as the A, K, Q, and J pattern. As time passes, different card faces appear, adding a playful element to the watch.
Memorigin has selected a tourbillon movement composed of 181 components and 19 jewels for the Magic Bridge Tourbillon watch, featuring a power reserve of 40 hours. The tourbillon mechanism at the 6 o'clock position vibrates at a frequency of 28,800 times per hour, ensuring stable and accurate timekeeping. This precision mirrors the calmness and meticulousness of bridge players, who maintain a steady performance to bring glory to Hong Kong.
Additionally, the Geely Automobile Inter-City Bridge Championships 2024 successfully took place from August 7th to 11th at the Crowne Plaza Hong Kong Kowloon East. MEMORIGIN, a strong supporter of the sport of bridge, served as one of the event partners and sponsored the "Memorigin 3-Bid Cup."
At the awards ceremony, Memorigin's founder and CEO, William Shum, along with John Fung, attended to show their support. John Fung mesmerized the audience with an impromptu magic performance, heightening the excitement of the event. Later, they were joined on stage by Abby and Alan to share their experiences and feelings on the collaboration. Finally, William presented the trophy and the prestigious Magic Bridge Tourbillon watch to the "Memorigin 3-Bid Cup" champions, WANG Wei and Zia WAI. Through its continued support of this intellectually stimulating sport, Memorigin aspires to inspire greater interest and participation from the younger generation.
