Hong Kong tourbillon brand Memorigin has always been committed to supporting local athletes. It has collaborated with elite athletes such as snooker player Marco Fu and the table tennis mixed doubles pair Wong Chun Ting and Doo Hoi Kem to design and launch new watches. This time, Memorigin collaborated with karate athlete Yu Hin Tang to create and introduce a new tourbillon watch themed around karate—the Karate Spirit Tourbillon.
Young and talented, Hin Tang is Hong Kong's first world-ranked number one karate athlete (U21), whose prowess is undeniable. He has been learning karate from an early age under his father's guidance, who is a former representative of Hong Kong karate. At the age of 15, Hin Tang became a full-time youth athlete, and the following year, he won a gold medal in the Boys’ Group A Kata event at the 2nd National Youth Games. In 2021, he also secured Hong Kong's first-ever gold medal in the Asian Youth Karate Championships. Memorigin founder and CEO, William Shum Wai Lam, highly appreciates Hin Tang's professionalism and persistent attitude, and sincerely invites him to collaborate and create the Karate Spirit Tourbillon, aiming to promote the sport of karate and the 'Hong Kong spirit.'
The skeleton dial of the Karate Spirit Tourbillon draws inspiration from the dynamic movements of two karate athletes sparring. Incorporating rubies and sapphires at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock positions, the hour markers represent the karate belt colors of both players during a match, accentuating the meticulous design. At 12 o'clock, the iconic "straight punch" fist pattern of karate is displayed, while the tourbillon window at 6 o'clock is embellished with a karate black belt, perfectly reflecting the karate theme. On the back of the watch, the sapphire crystal not only showcases the inscription "Karate" but also provides a glimpse of the intricate tourbillon movement. Additionally, the brand offers a distinctive movement engraving service, allowing customers to personalize their watches with their names or unique phrases from their martial arts schools, infusing the tourbillon with character and individuality.
