Founded by Mr. William Shum in 2011, Memorigin turned a brand-new page in Hong Kong’s dwindling watch industry. Very much the scion of a distinguished artistic family, William was nurtured by his grandfather, who was well-versed in literary classics and history, with a profound wealth of knowledge of Chinese culture. He was also deeply influenced by his woodcraft-collector father, Shum Mak-ling, who had a breadth of knowledge in woodworking craftsmanship. The vast amount of literary talent and artistic craftsmanship has trickled down through generations in the family and bred William’s interest in the long-standing and rich history of Chinese culture.

Hong Kong’s colonial background has resulted in a unique blend of oriental and western cultures. After William has completed his master’s degree in the U.S. and returned to Hong Kong for work, he often pondered upon ways to preserve and pass on this unique asset to future generations. One day, a thought struck him when he was appreciating his father’s newest woodcarving collections - wouldn’t it be immensely meaningful if Chinese woodcarving art can be merged with top Western watchmaking techniques, resulting in the creation of a tourbillon watch that can not only present the essence of “East meets West”, but also serve as a craftsmanship that can be passed on from father to son, and for generations to come?

Hence, William Shum has resolutely created Hong Kong’s first tourbillion watch brand. With an insistence on cultural heritage and dedication to product and technology development, the Hong Kong-based company has grown its fame in the international market, spreading the crux of the “East meets West” spirit to all parts of the world.
