The Peach Blossoms and the Swallow

Marking its 10th anniversary this year, the Hong Kong tourbillon brand Memorigin has been accelerating the development of local culture and creative industry. In 2015, Memorigin worked with Ms. Mary Yu, the renowned local designer, one of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 2011, and Outstanding PolyU Alumni, to launch the ‘Eternity Series’ tourbillon watch. It was well-received by the customers. This year, they partnered up again and even invited Yuan Jewelry, the brand established by another local designer Ms. Winnie Poon, to join the collaboration. Merging the oriental aesthetics and natural pearls with the watch craftsmanship, the three representatives created ‘The Peach Blossoms and the Swallow’ tourbillon watch.

Inspired by the love stories in the Chinese literature, The Classic of Mountains and Seas, Ms. Mary Yu decided to have a romance featured on the dial. While the peach blossoms symbol love and happiness, the swallow characterizes liveliness and hope. The intriguing visual spectacle depicts the anticipation of love and lives.

The stereoscopic perception is the emphasis of the watch. The watch craftsmen carved the swallows and the petals with white and pink mother-of-pearl respectively. The shape and size of each petal are different. The flower is outlined with a golden frame, and diamonds are added as the stamen, giving the watch more dimensions to be looked at. The dial is made of the natural mother-of-pearl, which comes in an array of interesting colors and variations. The fantasy effect turns the romantic scene into a fairyland.

The dial is decorated with 6 Japanese Akoya natural pearls of different sizes. To match the thickness and size of the watch, Yuan Jewelry selected the best pearls with a diameter of only 2 to 4 mm. In addition to serving as a time scale, the pearls offer grace and elegance. Ms. Mary Yu integrated the logo of Yuan Jewelry into the branch design on the dial. The exquisiteness of the watch can be seen with the attention to detail.

‘The Peach Blossoms and the Swallow’ tourbillon watch is Memorigin’s most complicated women's watch. Its development and assembling took ten months. Making use of the skeleton characteristic of mechanical watches, the scenery of peach blossoms flourishing in the spring breeze is vividly depicted. Memorigin has selected an automatic-winding movement with a vibration frequency of 28,800 oscillations per hour and a 72-hour power reserve for this series of watches. Without affecting the operation of the tourbillon movement, the number of components is reduced to a minimum so that it seems to be rotating in the air. With the arched three-dimensional sapphire glass on a stainless-steel case and the wavy skeleton dial, users can appreciate the beauty of high-end watch craftsmanship and jewelry art at all angles.
